Alliance For A Healthy Montana -
2014 Community Health Forums
The Alliance for a Healthy Montana, a coalition of health care providers, consumers, patient advocacy organizations, and tobacco use prevention groups, will be hosting legislative forums (click here) across the state starting November 10. Physicians are needed at these forums to converse with legislators on the patient access and care benefits of expanding the Medicaid program and other public policy initiatives that work to prevent chronic disease and increase access to care for all Montanans.
The MMA, as a member of the Alliance, is a sponsor of these forums. Your attendance at a forum can serve to bring the medical and patient perspectives to the conversation. Please let Jean Branscum, MMA EVP, know of your planned attendance by emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org.

MMA Calls for CMS to Put Brakes on New Medical Staff Rules
A final rule revising Medicare’s conditions of participation for hospitals could impact physicians’ role in hospital governance and patient care activities. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) needs to give the rule more thought and institute an immediate delay before implementation, the MMA, AMA and more than 80 other medical associations told the agency in a letter sent in early July.
The AMA and other medical societies, including the MMA, are calling on CMS to delay the rule’s effective date until May 12, 2015, a year after the rule was published.
“We think this is an ill-conceived policy that will disenfranchise physicians and hinder their input into hospital programs, especially for those physicians in rural or geographically distant hospitals,” the letter said. “We have also expressed serious concerns about the negative effects that this structure may have on patient care as well as the negative repercussions for system-wide care coordination activities.”
FRAUD ALERT: Physician Social Security Numbers Possibly Compromised – Fraudulent IRS Tax Filings
The Montana Medical Association has been made aware the Social Security numbers of many MT physicians and physician assistants may have been compromised resulting in fraudulent tax returns being filed with the IRS. Physicians are becoming aware only after attempting to file their 2013 income tax returns with the IRS. We are aware that this has occurred in other states.
If you have been impacted, please contact Jean Branscum at 406/443-4000 or email@example.com.
